How best would you describe your creative style?
Definitely organic. I’m hugely influenced by nature, so most of my work follows this theme. I love foraging for things I can use for new jewellery designs.
Have you always been creative?
Yes, from an early age. I always felt at home drawing, painting, and making things. I studied art at school, then 3D design and then modelmaking, so it's always been a part of my life.
What’s your favourite material to craft with?
I’ve tried so many during my career, but I especially love silver clay. It's such a versatile material; you can make incredible things with it. I love the alchemy that happens when it's fired and becomes pure silver. I also love the fact that it’s a product made from the waste silver left over from big industries. There’s magic in creating something beautiful from something that would otherwise be thrown away.
What’s your top tip for beginners?
Have fun! Try everything. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
What’s the strangest thing you have ever made?
I once made a clear dodo skeleton for a museum in Doha, a dead body for a theatre production and a giant ribbon to wrap around a tube train.
What’s your favourite thing about teaching?
Seeing the pleasure that students get from learning a new skill and knowing that I’ve had a part in that.
