Gwyneth’s ‘Green Shrug’ blog

24/7/24

I knitted this shrug last summer from a pattern I found on the internet. Libson Shrug by Val Love. I have worn it so much since the weather got warmer that I want to knit a green one.

I particularly like the pattern because there is NO seam sewing at all. This means very long rows, and a lot of knitting hanging on the needles by the end, so it is knitted back and forth on a circular needle.

This morning Karen helped me choose Sage Green Stylecraft Special DK (I need 3 balls) and I knitted a tension square.

I highlighted the numbers in brackets for the medium size on the pattern and cast on 189 stitches. This is for the top of both sleeves and across the back of the neck.

25/7/24,

Counting 189 stitches on a wire, not a needle, is difficult. I think I finally got it right!

I count off the rows with groups of marks on the pattern. I think the pattern is American as it says ‘bind off’ not ‘cast off’.

I knitted while watching the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

I have put markers in where I decrease every knit row, this is to shape the top of the sleeves.

I have been making polymer clay beads, not knitting.

Next installment coming soon…
