Derbyshire Open Arts Week

We have so much planned for our first ever Derbyshire Open Arts Week combined with our 5th Birthday Celebrations that it’s been a little overwhelmed to get our ducks in a row. However I think we are almost there so wanted to start sharing some of the exciting plans we have!

The studio is open from 10am – 2pm everyday throughout Derbyshire Open Arts Week. Here our line up so far including family workshops, adult workshops, meet the tutor sessions and more…

Lisa GoddardMeet The Tutor – Lisa Goddard – Art Tutor 1.30pm – 3.30pm
Come along and meet Lisa, she we will be busy creating in between chatting about her work, courses and workshops. This is the perfect time to see what she does and ask questions about courses that you may be interested in attending. There will be a 10% discount on all of Lisa’s workshops booked and paid for in cash during this session. This event is free to attend with refreshments available to purchase throughout the day – details below.

 

Monday 28th May – Bank Holiday Monday 

Karen Rogers owner of StraightCurvesGet CrafTEA with Karen from 10am until 2pm! Drop in to catch up with Karen and bring along something crafty to keep you busy while we natter. This event is free to attend with refreshments available to purchase throughout the day – details below. Karen will be on hand all day to answer questions, show you around and have a good old catch up with.  There will be a 10% discount on all of Karen’s adult workshops booked and paid for in cash during this session.

5th Birthday Exhibition Private View 10am – 2pm
We are staging an exhibition of learner work for the whole period from 25 May – 3 June 2018 in our hallway gallery. This will be a chance for those exhibiting, their family & friends and our customers to come along and view the exhibition with refreshments.

Wednesday 30th May

Woolly Wednesday 10am – 12.30pm and 6.30pm – 9pm
Our weekly social crafting session runs as normal in the morning and evening £3.50 for non-members and includesrefreshments. Bring along any craft that isn’t messy or noisy to get creative while having a natter.

Alison Greer - StraightCurves tutor

 

Meet The Tutor – Alison Greer – Dressmaking Tutor  10am – 12pm
Come along and meet Alison, she we will be busy creating in between chatting about her work, courses and workshops. Family Simple Skirt Workshop 1pm – 4pm 
Would you like to be able to make clothes? Try this taster session to create a simple elasticated skirt for yourself or your kids/grandkids. You will learn how to measure and cut your fabric, sew and finish seams to stop them from fraying, insert elastic into a casing and hem your skirt. You will leave this workshop with a fab wearable skirt and the skills you have leant on the day. Suitable for age 11 upwards who already know how to use a sewing machine to sew in  straight-ish line and limited to 6 places bookable online.

 

Kimono Jacket 6pm – 9pm 
This one size fits most short sleeved Kimono jacket is a perfect addition to you spring/summer wardrobe. Ideal to wear casual or more dressed up. Have you been thinking of starting sewing for a while or your sewing skills are feeling a bit rusty, join us for this confidence building beginner’s session. You will learn how to cut out a pattern, finish and sew accurate seams and finish your hems using bias binding. Suitable for age 16 + who can already use a sewing machine. Just 6 places available to book online.

Saturday 2nd June

Free Machine Embroidery Cushion Workshop 10am – 4pm
Learn how to draw with your sewing machine to create your own design onto a cushion to take home. Karen will lead you through the process step-by-step from picking a design and fabrics to getting your cushion sewn up ready to take home. There are just 4 places available on this workshop that are bookable online.
