At StraightCurves, we offer one-to-one tuition in most of the arty and crafty areas that we do courses and workshops in. Whether you want to overcome a fear of overlockers, get the knitting know-how or crack crochet we can help.

Self-paced tuition to suit your lifestyle
Jill requested 1:1 tuition in crochet – she wanted to follow the programme of our Beginner’s Crochet Course, but at her own pace and on varying times and days to suit her busy lifestyle.
Troubleshooting & support in specific areas
Alison wanted to get to grips with her overlocker and learn how to use it properly – including the bit she feared the most – threading up! We arranged a one-to-one session with our lovely sewing tutor and within two hours Alison had cracked it!

We were contacted by a lady who wanted to learn Macrame. At the time we didn’t offer a workshop in this skill, but as we’re always looking for new crafty course ideas we jumped at the chance and put together five sessions for the learner to master this knotty art. It was so successful that we’re now looking to add it to our range of regular workshops – watch this space!
One-to-one sessions can take place either in the comfort of your home or at the StraightCurves Studio – a fully-accessible building on Saltergate in the heart of Chesterfield. We also offer virtual one to ones via zoom.
All of our one-to-one sessions are completely tailored to your needs and requirements, so whatever it is that you want help with, get in touch as to whether it’s a one-off session or some regular attention we’d love to help!
2022 Prices:
Sewing machine related £35 for first hour £30 subsequent hours
Other arts & crafts £30 for first hour £25 subsequent hours
These prices do not include materials and are based on sessions in our studio, if you want us to come to you get in touch so we can calculate the additional call out charge.
We can also offer 1:2 tuition and small private classes that work out at less per person, get in touch for more information.
