Young Bookbinding Day

Your tutor will lead you step-by-step through the book making process.

First we will decide on the size of your book and cut the spine and covers. Then we will prime these with Gesso. Next we will make a template and choose and cut our papers to size ready to form our signatures.

We will decorate our cover using a silhouette image of your choice and then applying watercolour. Finally we will seal our covers with clear gesso. We will then add our signatures and bind the book together.

Lastly we will add decoration including stitching, a title plate and a fastening method of your choice.

This class is suitable for young people aged 10 years to 18 years old. Please note this is primarily a workshop aimed at children therefore older teenagers should be mature enough to understand age appropriate discussions. Children will be dropped off for the day.

A packed lunch and any papers or other items they would like to use in their book. However there is no need to bring any materials if you don't want to as everything will be provided for use during the day.

If you where glasses it is essential that you bring these along as we will be measuring and using sharp tools.
