No. of Sessions: 1
Length of Session: 2.5 hours
£29.00
This is a creative and enjoyable pottery vase making workshop, where you will have the opportunity to make a vase with pattern and texture.
You will learn all the techniques needed to create your vase so join us if you’ve had no pottery experience or if you’ve had experience but enjoy the chance to learn a new way to design and work with clay.
Join us for a chance to create your own decorative vase, and have an enjoyable time playing with clay! We will learn the wrap around technique to create the shape of the vase. To create texture and decoration we will experiment with imprinting techniques.
Clare loves to create a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere where there are no mistakes! With great step by step instruction you’ll easily learn the techniques and will also be given the chance to explore your creative ideas when it comes to decorating your vase. We’ll spend some time developing our designs using easy ideas so that each vase will be unique to you. To highlight the detail of the decoration a glaze stain will be added during the firing cycle, this adds an eye catching colour to your finished vase.
At the end of the session you will have made a vase in clay decorated in your own design. This will be fired and made ready for collection within 2 weeks.
No need to bring anything along with you as everything you need will be provided on the day.
At the end of the session you will have completed your vase. This will need to be glazed and fired. You will be contacted when they are ready to be collected from StraightCurves- this is expected to be within 2 weeks of the workshop. Please see extra details below to explain more.
Clay needs to be fired twice after it has been dried which is why there is a wait of approximately 2 weeks for the finished pieces to be ready. As is sometimes the case with clay there can occasionally be a degree of unpredictability with the firing timings and outcomes. This project has been planned to have a minimum chance of any issues but we like to explain that this is always a factor when working in clay. This is the joy and challenge of making pottery!
Creator of textile inspired ceramics; lover of pottery with texture.

Rosie Timperley –
This was the most amazing afternoon. Thoroughly enjoyed making my vase, experimenting with different fabrics and other media to imprint patterns on the clay slab. A really creative time. I was thrilled when I picked my vase up just before Christmas and even more so when I was able to fill it with daffodils just recently. Thoroughly recommend the course. Clare is a great tutor and it was a really relaxing yet creative afternoon.
