Pottery Bird Box

In this workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of working with clay slabs to craft a unique bird box, perfect for attracting feathered friends to your garden. Once the structure is built, you can get creative with surface decoration. Add detailed leaves, berries, flowers, doors or any anything that inspires you to make your bird box truly one-of-a-kind.

To bring your creation to life, we will be using vibrant underglazes to add colour directly to the clay. This allows you to paint your decorative elements—like those tiny berries and leaves—in beautiful detail.

As part of this workshop you will get a an hour for lunch. You are welcome to bring your lunch and stay throughout or pop out to get lunch.

Perfect for beginners or those expanding their pottery skills and can be tailored for all skill levels:
• Beginners will receive comprehensive instructions and templates to guide them through every step of the build.
• Experienced potters are welcome to develop their own designs. If you have a specific custom shape in mind, please bring your own pre-cut templates, ensuring your finished piece is under 20cm tall.

It's primarily for adults, but we warmly welcome anyone aged 14 and above. We just ask that younger participants are able to maintain concentration and engagement throughout the workshop.

All materials and equipment are provided. While we won't get too messy, we recommend not wearing your best white top. Clay should wash out, but please bring your own apron if you wish to protect your clothes.

Your lunch and glasses if you need them. Cuppas and biscuits are included throughout the workshop as usual. Alternatively, you will have an hour for lunch so will have time to pop out to buy something to eat.

After the workshop, your finished bird box will be dried, fired, and finished with a main glaze colour of your choice or a clear glaze to protect it from the elements. Your creation will be ready for collection from the venue approximately 3-4 weeks later, ready to be displayed with pride in your garden. We will contact you via email when your work is ready to collect from the studio.
