Natural Dyes

We will make a variety of dyes for you to experiment with to produce samples of naturally dyed yarn and/or fabric.

Learn about a variety of dyes, how to make them from different sources, different mordants (don’t worry if you don’t know what this means all will be explained as we go) and tried and tested recipes.

In this workshop you will learn the basics of natural dyeing so that you will be able to go home with the knowledge and confidence to make your own dyes to use in the future. You will also get the chance to have a go and record your experiments for future reference.

For those with no knowledge of dyeing fabric & yarn, or those who have a basic knowledge and would like to experiment further with natural dyes.

Just bring yourself as you will receive everything you need for use during the workshop. However if you have some scraps of yarn or fabric that you would particularly like to try natural dyes on please bring them with you. We will supply some in the workshop so don’t worry if you don’t want to bring anything along.

There will be a refreshment break where tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. However if you would like anything more substantial you will have time to wander into town or please feel free to bring along your own food - we do have a fridge for storage too.
