Inkle weaving is a traditional method of weaving to make long, strong, decorative woven bands for belts, bag straps and edging etc. This workshop is an introduction to inkle/band weaving, also known as warp-faced weaving.
During this session you will learn how to warp up a loom using a warping draft, how to create patterns using plain weave and how to read pattern charts to weave pick-up patterns, including Baltic-Style patterning.
We will weave on inkle table looms, floor looms and back-strap looms. Weaving with a variety of yarn, colour, patterns and techniques to complete bookmark-sized woven samples, for you to take home.
All equipment and materials will be provided but if you have an inkle loom you are welcome to bring it with you. If you have an inkle loom you are welcome to bring it with you. Please remember your glasses if you need them for close up work.
You will take home the woven samples that you will have created during the session, these will be approximately bookmark size. This workshop will give you the confidence and skills needed to set up and weave on an inkle loom independently at home.
I thoroughly enjoyed this workshop and learnt so much, Dee is a excellent teacher and I now feel confident to use my inkle loom and make items that I will be pleased with.

This is a great course to go on if you’ve never done any inkle weaving before or if you’ve had a play but not sure if you’re doing it right. Dee is a great tutor with plenty of information and experience that just builds your confidence not only to make bands but to see what you can potentially make from them. I liked the person to person tutoring as there’s plenty of tips and tricks to improve your weaving. I have since gone on to produce a lovely even band that I’m proud of and I’m now experimenting on trying Baltic pick up weave. Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed and will probably go away with loads of ideas to keep you going for a long time. Absolutely brilliant ☺️

Had a wonderful day with Dee who is a knowledgeable, very practical tutor. I loved the way she thought my mistakes were a great thing because she could show us the way to easily solve them. Enthusiastic now to get a small loom & some of the books she had out. There was a great table of samples of different styles, patterns & methods. We were encouraged to try out the various options. Thanks

I’ve spent a wonderful day with Dee learning the art of Inkle weaving. It’s going to be a new obsession! Dee has spent lots of time letting us have hands on experience st trying all kinds of Inkle weaving. It’s a definite must for anyone who loves crafts but don’t have room for a huge loom or spinning wheel. The possibilities are endless. I’ve met lovely people, had lots of tea and biscuits and have come away with a hand made key ring. I highly recommend having a go at Inkle weaving and Dee is a great teacher.

I’ve had a gorgeous day and Dee was super patient with me asking about a million questions. I really wanted to learn some ‘Viking’ weaving and it’s so much better learning in person. She’s an absolute fountain of knowledge and could show us an enormous variety of examples of bands and patterns. It was lovely getting to try a variety of techniques and seeing all the variation of thread type etc. It’s really ignited my interest and I’m so looking forward to trying more at home. Thank you so much 😊

Had a fantastic relaxing day learning various techniques on a range of looms and trying out different yarns. Dee was a great teacher and shared some really interesting information about the history of weaving too. It was really helpful to see a very wide range of examples to inspire future projects and have now built the skills and confidence during the day to try a few of them.
