This is our next level crochet course to follow on directly from our beginners course. Each session will see Karen teaching you a different technique or following a different pattern. From making a beanie hat, a sunflower brooch, learning how to waffle and corner to corner this is a jam packed course that will grow your confidence and increase your breadth of skills.
Each session is detailed below:
Session One: Cracking Corner 2 Corner
For this session you will need double knit yarn in more than one colour and a size 4mm crochet hook or similar. You can buy wool from us if you don't have anything to bring along.
We will learn how to create multiple rows of corner to corner crochet, how to change colour, and how to decrease rows to complete your project to make squares or rectangles of corner to corner. We will work off a written pattern together so this will help to build your confidence in pattern reading too.
Session Two: Treble Beanie Hat Part One
For this session you will need a 100g ball of yarn, you can choose any thickness and type of yarn for this project and will need a crochet hook sized to match your chosen yarn.
We will learn how to start a project with a magic ring (and a cheats way if it's a bit tricky for you), how to work in rounds, how to alter the pattern to suit your chosen yarn, head size and required slouchy-ness! You will be talked through the start of the pattern step by step so if you find following patterns tricky this will be great practice.
Session Three: Treble Beanie Hat Part Two
We will learn front post trebles and back post trebles to create a rib to complete your treble beanie hat. There will also be time in this session to help with main part of the hat if you have been struggling to get it going since the last session for whatever reason.
Session Four: Blooming Lovely - Creating a Sunflower with leaves
For the session you will need two colours of yarn in your chosen thickness for the flower, along with another colour in the same thickness to make the leaves and a hook to match the size of your yarn.
We will learn how to make a magic ring or loop, invisible fix yarn, and how to popcorn! Sorry no movies involved in this one.
Session Five: Waffle, Waffle, Waffle (try not to sing Chas and Dave)
For the session you will need some chunky wool if possible and a 6mm hook or if you don't have any chunky yarn and an alternative and hook to match yarn. The pattern allows you to make a cushion cover or cowl which you will start in the session and finish afterwards. These both depending on size are likely to need 2 100g balls of chunky. If you want to make a scarf you will obviously need more yarn. We will revise front post trebles and learn how to follow the written and diagrammatic pattern.
Session Six: Joining Granny Squares
NO sewing required but you will need pre-made granny squares and a colour of yarn in the same thickness to join them with. During the session you will use a different colour of wool to create a border to your pre-made squares to join them together without any sewing. You will need a minimum of 4 completed squares to take part in this session along with wool to join them and a crochet hook.
This course is for people who have already attended our beginners course, or experienced beginners and intermediate learners. In other words people who can already crochet a bit and want to extend or improve their skills and try a new technique.
You should already by able to chain, slip stitch, double crochet, half treble, treble, and double treble.
For each session you will need yarn, hooks, and a pair of scissors. You may also find stitch markers handy on some sessions. We do sell yarn at the studio in case you forget yours or just want more and if needed you can borrow a hook for use during the session.
Please don't forget your glasses if you need them as being able to see is pretty essential to success.
