Creative Clay Course

Take your pottery further and bring your own independent projects to life in this flexible 5 session course.

Designed for those who have already attended at least one pottery workshop or have pottery experience, this course includes 2kg of stoneware clay.

You bring your own ideas to make whatever you like. Rather than following step-by-step instructions, you will work independently on your own unique designs with expert help, guidance, and troubleshooting on hand whenever you need it. However don't panic Vicky will have a different theme or idea each week if you want inspiration but following it is completely optional to allow you total freedom to be creative.

Please note we do not have pottery wheels at the studio so this course will focus on slab building and coil techniques.

There will be 4 sessions of making after which all your items will be bisque fired and brought back for the last session when you will glaze your items. There will be a choice of glazes available and you can decide how to finish your pieces in this final session.

Please note that you can use your 2kg of clay to make one large item over the several sessions or lots of different smaller things. The firing of 4 items is included in the course price. If you make any additional items there will be an additional charge of £5 per finished item that gets fired and glazed to cover the firing and glazing costs to be paid during one of the sessions before your work is fired. There are size limitations due to the size of our kiln but we will explain that all during the first session for you.

Session 5
Glazing your items that have already been bisque fired.

This course is suitable for those who have already attended some pottery workshops or have previous experience, meaning it is not suitable for absolute beginners; instead, it is aimed at makers looking to increase their skills and knowledge with some guidance and help along the way.

It is primarily aimed at adults but young adults aged 16 and over can attend with a participating adult.

All materials and equipment are provided. While we won't get too messy, we recommend not wearing your best white top. Clay should wash out, but feel free to bring an apron if you prefer, but don't worry if you forget we have some spare if you need to borrow one.

If you need reading glasses its a good idea to bring these along too as you may need them for adding details to your pottery pieces.

All the skills you learn along with your finished pottery pieces - however this won't be instant, see below.

As we are using stoneware clay it will need to be fired. The bisque firing will happen before the fifth session so that you can glaze your pieces however the glaze firing won't happen till after that session. Your pieces will be available to collect 2-3 weeks after the course end date from the studio. There will be a range of time slots available for pick up to suit you even if you work during the day or at weekends.
