This five session sewing machine course is for children aged 8 – 14 to learn the basics of using a sewing machine. Each session we will cover a different skill as we build our confidence and knowledge through repetition. You will learn how to measure and cut fabric, thread up the machine and fill bobbins, create seams and hems and work with a variety of fabrics.
We will be using beginners’ sewing machines to get to grips with all the main skills you need to get started – whether you want to make clothes for your doll or tents for your action man!
There will be a maximum of 6 learners on this course to ensure a quality experience and that we have plenty of room to cut our fabric. Squash and biscuits are provided throughout all the sessions but you are more than welcome to bring a drinks bottle with you if you wish.
Once your child has completed this course we run a children’s sewing club on Sunday evenings that they may want to attend to develop their skills.

Brilliant! Your course was a birthday gift to my granddaughter Beatrice , hoping to encourage her interest in sewing, and what an amazing success it has been. Each week , on her return home she contacted me to show me what she had made and was clearly so excited and proud of what she had learned. This summer , when she will be staying , she will be making her first simple outfit , and she has already if she can go on another course as a Christmas present! I’d say a fantastic outcome, so a huge thank you for what I hope will become a life long skill.
