You will be provided with a portfolio which will contain instructions for all skills covered, spaces to display your skill building work and patterns for all the mini projects covered.
Session One
We will begin the course with a demonstration and skill building session that will cover foundation chains, rows, turning and double crochet stitches. We will spend time perfecting these new skills, before you put them into practice by beginning your very first project which could be either a phone case or a mug hug!
Session Two
In the second session, we will finish off your first project – looking at how to slip stitch and sew in ends! We will then learn two new stitches – half treble crochet and treble crochet!
Session Three
Granny Squares!! In our third session you’ll master the traditional crochet square and learn all about changing colours. We’ll warn you now though, they’re addictive – once you start you’ll just keep going on, and on, and round, and round until your square is a huge blanket!
Session Four
Using all of the stitches and skills you have learned so far, we will create a posy of flowers in pretty coloured chunky wool as you learn a bit more about following a pattern!
Session Five
In our final session we will build on our pattern-reading skills as you make a cute gecko! You can choose to make him from either cotton, double knit or chunky wool, and you will see how the choice of yarn and hook size affects a finished project!

This was the first course I attended at StraightCurves and it was brilliant. I am not a naturally creative or crafty person but Karen was incredibly patient with my complete lack of talent and over the weeks I completely fell in love with crochet and, several years on, I still pick up my hooks almost every day. This course is highly recommended, though should come with a warning that both crochet and StraightCurves courses & workshops are addictive!
