Beginners Bookbinding Workshop – Junk Journal

We will start the workshop by making the cover. These can be decorated any way you like.

Next you tutor will demonstrate how to create your signatures (pages) and show you on how to bind these into your cover. Don't worry we will be there to help you with every step of this process to get it nice and secure ready for all your journalling fun!

Finally to finish off your journals we will be decorating, adding embellishments, pockets, tuck spots, fold out sections and tabs to help make you journals extra special and unique.

The workshop is for adults (or teenagers with a responsible participating adult) with or without any experience of anything. If you have always fancied giving bookbinding a try but didn’t know where to start this workshop is full of fun ideas to help you get started. Once you have made one you’ll be hooked!

Materials will be provided however it is always nice to include things that you like and that mean something to you in your journals. Here is a list of suggested items that you may wish to bring:

- Old greeting cards
- Old letters/envelopes
- Any nice papers or wrapping paper
- Old calendars or diaries especially those with pictures
- Images you like from magazines
- Old books that you don’t mind cutting up
- Photographs
- Postcards
- Writing paper/notecards

Please bear in mind that any item you bring could be included in your journal and should only be items you don’t mind cutting up, sticking in etc.

Also glasses are a must if you wear them as we will be threading a needle and using sharp tools in this workshop.

There is a lunch break on this workshop so feel free to bring some lunch with you or pop into town to get something during the break. We also have a fridge and a microwave that you are welcome to make use of if you want to bring something hot to eat.

By the end of the workshop you will have a complete junk journal that is yours to take home and use however you wish. You will have the skills to make more journals at home too along with a helpful sheet of tips to aid your memory.
