About Us

Founded in 2013 - where it all began!

StraightCurves was set up in 2013 by Karen Rogers, a fully qualified and experienced designer and secondary school teacher / adult education tutor, who is passionate about creativity and learning. In 2013 we moved into a studio in Chesterfield’s newly refurbished Market Hall, but quickly outgrew the space and began searching for a new home.

At the end of 2014, we moved into our very own building on Saltergate in the heart of Chesterfield, and with the help of a grant from the Global Derbyshire scheme, renovated it to include three bright studio spaces, a fully-fitted kitchen and a disabled toilet to make the building accessible.

A business with ethics & values

We firmly believe that anyone can be creative, and offer a range of high-quality workshops and courses (over 60 at the moment, and we’re always adding new ones…) for adults and children in a variety of techniques. In the unlikely event that you can’t find a course, workshop or club that suits you, we are always looking for new ideas so get in touch and I’ll see what we can do!

We also run regular social crafting sessions, offer 1 to 1 tuition, and can run bespoke activities for any occasion – be it a birthday party, baby shower, hen do, or just a normal day! All of our crafty parties, events and 1:1 tuition are costed and designed just for you, so get in touch to let us know what you are looking for and one of our ever growing team will be able to help you!

StraightCurves Studio

We like to get out & about....and we enjoy a cuppa!

We work primarily from our studio building, but also go out and about to craft fairs, care homes, shopping centres, schools and can even come to you in your own home!

Everything we do is aimed at skill-building in a relaxed environment and so we keep our class sizes small. We love wool (all kinds, big & small), tea (it has to be PG) and biscuits (Bourbons all the way) and I hope you will join us as we also love making new friends!
