Hello! I’m Sara I have a passion for fashion (sorry, it had to be done!). I started designing skirts at 12 years old and my love has developed from there. My speciality is creative pattern cutting – experimenting with shape forms to see how things turn out!
After leaving school, I did a BTEC National Diploma in Fashion and Clothing, followed by a BA Hons Degree in Fashion Studies. Whilst on my degree course I was lucky enough to spend the summer on a work placement at Vivienne Westwood (my idol) in London where I learnt a lot of insider design and pattern cutting knowledge and actually got the chance to see the designer fashion industry first hand.
After graduating in 2007, I co-owned a vintage boutique ‘The Closet’, selling vintage and handmade bespoke pieces. I was then approached by my old college tutor to teach pattern cutting and garment manufacture, an opportunity which lead to teacher training and gaining my PGCE in 2011. I have been involved in teaching pattern cutting and garment manufacture ever since.
At StraightCurves I teach courses in pattern cutting and dress making, workshops in zips and overlockers and run the Sew Social sessions where you can get some help with your current project, whatever it may be!
I also offer alterations and bespoke dressmaking services – please contact me through StraightCurves if this is something that you’re interested in!
Aside from teaching, I’m a full time mum to my two cheeky boys who keep me very busy and seem to have a much better social life than me!! I love all things crafty, and if I think ‘I can do that’ I will always have a go rather than buy it!
