This workshop will show you how to make a skirt made from two squares – the bigger the squares, the longer the skirt! It is reversible and can be made to any size!
Who Is This Workshop For?
This workshop is suitable for anybody aged 8 years old through to adults who would like to make this skirt. You don’t need to have any experience of making clothes or following patterns, you just need to be able to do the basics on a sewing machine – threading it up and going in a straight-ish line! Please note there will only be 5 learners on this course to ensure you have enough space to work in.
We will begin by taking your measurements to enable you to create a square skirt pattern to the right size – if you are making the skirt for somebody else, you will need to know their waist measurement.
The calculation for the skirt pattern does involve the use of Pi, but don’t worry if you didn’t pay attention at school, we’ll help you work it all out!
We will then create your pattern and cut out your fabric (before beginning to construct your skirt following step-by-step guidance and demonstrations from your lovely tutor.
What Should I Bring With Me?
You will need to bring 4 meters of fabric with you – 2 meters of one design and 2 of another – ideally the same weight and in a contrasting colour or design to make it a reversible skirt.
The wider the fabric, the longer the skirt will be – if you’re not sure give us a call and we’ll help you choose!
Fabric should be a cotton, polycotton or similar lightweight non-stretchy/shiny fabric (no jersey, chiffon or satin for workshop). The skirt can be made in other fabrics at home but we need a well behaved fabric to get the skirt made in the single session.
We will provide all other equipment and materials, including lots of drinks and biscuits.
What Do I Take Home?
All the skills you have learned, the finished skirt and the pattern you have produced during the workshop to use again for future skirt creations.
