Come along a create a sustainable and personalised santa sack for presents that can be used again and again and again… being treasured forever.
Who Is This Workshop For?
For learners who can already thread a sewing machine and are confident in using both straight and zig zag stitch. It is the perfect follow on workshop for those who have been on our Beginner’s Sewing Machine Skills course previously.
We will start by designing your sack size and text layout using the fabric that you bring with you. The fabric will then be cut to size and a sack tie made. We will then look at the skills involved to applique your personalisation onto your santa’s sack. Consideration will be given to timings involved depending on how many letters your name involves (those with more ambitious words will have a shorter lunch break!).
After lunch we will run through the construction techniques used to complete your sack including making the channel for your tie and using french seams to produce a high quality of finish to your sack inside and out.
What Should I Bring With Me?
You need to purchase 1m of the main fabric for your sack – 100% cotton is recommended (Esbergers have a great range). You will also need 1/2 m of a plain or alternative pattern in 100% cotton to make your channel and letters for personalisation. Please also bring thread for your applique to match this second 1/2 m of fabric. You will have access to everything else you need during the workshop in terms of equipment and materials (extra thread, bond-a-web, etc).
If you wish to bring your own sewing machine along you can please contact us to let us know as you will need to let us have some details about it before bringing it along.
What Do I Take Home?
You will take home your very own personalised santa sack that will make an excellent gift for someone special this festive season and many more to come.
