Pattern Cutting Basics

Tutor: Sara Laverick
Length: 2.5 hours
Max Learners: 7

Who Is This Workshop For?

For those with an interest in basic pattern cutting and who are aged 16 and over. No existing skills are necessary, you just need to be keen to learn!  Please note there will only be 7 learners on this workshop to ensure that you have enough space to work and to help with the maths bit too!

We will be producing personalised dress blocks that will actually fit you!

Firstly we will use your personal measurements to adjust the block to fit (that’s the maths bit!). We will then learn about dart manipulation and different style line adaptations including neck and hem lines.  Finally we will create a facing pattern for the next and armholes.  All of this will be demonstrated to you by your lovely tutor, step by step to keep you on track.

What Should I Bring With Me?

Just bring yourself as you will receive all of the pattern cutting equipment and materials you need within the session.  If you want to bring a few ideas of how you want to adapt your neck and hem line then feel free to put your thinking cap on before the session – alternatively you can decide during the session!

What Do I Take Home?

All the skills you have learnt, the pattern you have produced during the workshop and an option to transfer the pattern on to card for future use and reference.

Anything Else I Should Know?

You will possibly develop a desperate need to book onto the full five week Pattern Cutting Course to continue your dress design through to creating a toile!
