Festive Patchwork Cushion

Tutor: Karen Rogers
Length: 3.25 hours

Who Is This Workshop For?

This workshop is for people who have either already been on the Beginner’s Sewing Machine Skills Course or who are confident in all the skills listed in the course description (in other words you can use a machine to sew straight edges, thread up, produce seam and hem, etc.)

We will begin by designing our festive cushion covers and then learn the patchworking skills needed to produce your chosen design(s). Depending on how ambitious you are depends on whether you get one or two cushion covers completed in the workshop. There will be demonstrations on patchwork, applique, cushion design and construction.

The festive covers will be removable and therefore can be removed for washing and storing until next Christmas.

What Should I Bring With Me?

Bring 1 or 2 cushion inners (old or new) – we can provide these at an additional cost if you forget!

You will also need to bring fabric and matching thread. We recommend for 2 x 50cm square cushions 1/2m of two different patterned cotton fabrics (patchwork or applique design) and one 1/2m of a plain colour cotton fabric for the cushion backs. We would also recommend a strong good quality thread as you will be investing you time in the cushions so you want them to last and be washable.

What Do I Take Home?

You will take away the festive patchwork cushion covers that you make during the workshop (this may be one or two depending on how complex your designs are and how speedy you are on the machine!).

A handmade cushion cover could make a great personalised hand made gift for someone special too so feel free to choose non-festive fabrics if you are making it as a gift.
