Make a day or evening clutch bag in your favourite colour, or to match an outfit – learning how to put in a zip and line your bag.
Who Is This Workshop For?
For those aged 14 and up who can thread a machine and sew straight lines.
Please note there will only be 5 learners on this workshop to ensure personal attention with the new skills you will be learning.
We will start with cutting out your fabrics with a template and then designing the embellishment for the front with some beads, buttons or trim. We’ll then either hand sew beads and buttons, or machine sew trim, onto the front to get you started.
We’ll then discuss the type of interfacing you’ll be using for your bag and how to apply it, before inserting your zip – don’t worry, we’ll take it steady and your tutor will give you lots of support!
Then you’ll be shown how to assemble the bag lining and outer, if you like, you can leave the final inner seam, to do at home, so that you can add more front embellishment first.
We’ll then get ready to hit the town with our new bags!
What Should I Bring With Me?
You will need to bring half a meter of your outer fabric and half a meter of a co-ordinating fabric for the lining.
You will also need a 12” zip – this can be a chunky metal one or a coloured plastic one, whichever you prefer (the zip will be a visible part of your design.)
For the outside of your bag something with a bit of weight is best, such as denim or a curtain fabric. Faux suede, corduroy and woollen fabrics work well too. For the inner fabric you need a thinner fabric such as a cotton or poly-cotton.
You will also need to bring some beads or trim that complement your fabric but we do have a small selection of beads and buttons that you can use to supplement yours!
What Do I Take Home?
All the skills you learn, the bag you produce during the session, plus your template to make another bag.
Your instructions for finishing the final inside seam, if you opt to finish it at home.
Don’t forget your supplies and your glasses, if you need them for hand sewing!
