Decorative Pottery Dish

Tutor: Clare Gage
Length: 3 hours
Max Learners: 8

A creative and enjoyable pottery skills workshop making a decorative dish with pattern and texture.

Who?

You will learn all the techniques needed to create the dish so join us if you’ve had no pottery experience or if you’ve had experience but enjoy the chance to learn a new way to design and work with clay.

How?

Join us to get your hands dirty working in clay! We’ll play with the clay to create texture and pattern on the clay surface. Then we’ll learn some pottery techniques for making a square dish which you will decorate with your own design.

Clare will tell you about her experience being a designer and maker of pottery and pass on some of her skills. Learn an easy design trick to allow you to work like a real designer! We’ll take the time to play with our ideas and learn about how to make them in clay.

At the end of the session you will have made a dish in clay decorated in your own design. This will be fired and made ready for collection within 2 weeks.

Bring?

No need to bring anything along with you as everything you need will be provided on the day. It can get a bit messy though so maybe wear something well loved rather than new, don’t worry though it will wash either way.

Take home?

On the day you will take home your design work and a handout to remind you of the pottery skills that you have learnt. The finished dishes will be left at the studio to be glazed and fired and you will be contacted when they are ready to be collected- this is expected to be within 2 weeks of the workshop. Please see extra details below to explain more.

Special instructions

Clay needs to be fired twice after it has been dried which is why there is a wait of approximately 2 weeks for the finished dishes to be ready. As is sometimes the case with clay there can occasionally be a degree of unpredictability with the firing timings and outcomes. This project has been planned to have a minimum chance of any issues but we like to explain that this is always a factor when working in clay. This is the joy and challenge of making pottery!
