Festive Mosaics

Tutor: Lis Greensmith
Length: 2.5 hours
Max Learners: 8

The art of mosaics has a long history dating back 5000 years, and despite swings in popularity its appeal has endured to this day and we still have many fine examples of historic mosaics thanks to the durability of the materials used.

Today we still follow the same methods to create mosaics, but we now have a huge variety of materials we can use – recycled materials, found objects, etc.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This workshop is suitable for both complete beginners and those with some prior knowledge who want to experiment a bit more.

Please note this workshop is not suitable for children due to the sharp edges involved when cutting tiles and the tools used to cut the tiles.

We will start by learning the basics of cutting and nibbling using two types of tile nippers. We will then move on to sealing, laying out our design and gluing. The method we will be using is called the direct method (but don’t worry you don’t need to know anything about it prior to turning up to do it).

Towards the end of the workshop there will be a grouting demonstration to show you what you need to do at home after the workshop, as you can only grout your design once the glue is completely dry and transparent so sadly we can’t do this bit together.

What Should I Bring With Me?

Just bring yourself as you will have access to everything you need during the workshop in terms of equipment and materials.

What Do I Take Home?

You will take home your beautiful mosaic tile, along with a pot of grout and grouting instructions, to enable you to finish the masterpiece at home once the glue is completely dry.
