Liz and Kate Pope are award-winning illustrators and are keen to share their experiences of working in freelance illustration and design with learners at StraightCurves, helping you to think about colour choices, format and layout as well as learning new ways to collage as you create fabulous designs!
Who Is This Workshop For?
This workshop is for anybody with an interest in working with papers and collage, or who would like to know more about patterns, placing imagery, colour choices and the processes involved in putting them together. You should be aged 16 or older!
We will start the session with a chat about our own careers in the design & greetings card industries, showing how designs can vary across the field. We will discuss ways to use collage, with bold shapes and intricate details, before helping you to decide on a theme for your own cards or piece of art.
We’ll then focus on colour choices, placement when creating a design and collaging techniques as you experiment with lots of colourful papers and get sticking!
You will use exciting collage papers with patterns and textured surfaces, and can choose to create either greetings cards with that personal touch or a larger single piece which will be framed ready to hang or display in your home.
What Should I Bring With Me?
Just bring yourself as you will receive all of the equipment and materials you need to create either three collage cards or a framed piece of art.
What Do I Take Home?
If you have chosen to make cards, you will take home the three cards that you have made in envelopes and cellophane packed, along with the skills you have learned along the way.
If you have chosen to make a single art piece, you will take home your finished collage piece, beautifully mounted into your choice of black or white frame, along with the skills you have learned along the way.
Whether you choose to make cards or an art piece, you will never look at paper in the same way again! Magazines, wallpapers and fabrics will all present themselves as potential collage material!
