Intermediate Pattern Cutting – Basic Trousers

Tutor: Sara Laverick
Length: 10 hours
Max Learners: 5

Further your pattern cutting skills and create a personalised trouser block using your own measurements.  The block will then be transformed into a pattern, and finally into a trouser toile (a practice pair of trousers made in cheap fabric for fit purposes)

Who Is This Session For?

This course is suitable for those with an interest in basic pattern cutting who have already had a go – either on one of our courses or workshops, or by themselves at home. You do also need to be able to use a sewing machine!

Session One

We will begin by taking your personal measurements to enable you to begin the step-by-step process of creating your trouser block and toile. There is a little bit of maths involved in this session, but don’t be scared, it’s easy maths (and your lovely tutor will be on hand with a calculator to help out if needed!!)

Session Two

In this session, we will begin construction a trouser pattern from the personalised block, adding seam allowances. We will also lay-plan your patterns, ready to cut out and begin sewing!

Session Three

In the third session, we will continue sewing your toile, including darts, side seams and crotch seams.  The tutor will fit the trousers to you, and then if any alterations are needed, we will make these and re-fit until you are happy.

Session Four

Any adjustments that were made during fitting need to be made directly back to the block master pattern. In session four we will do this, before transferring our personalised block pattern onto card for you to keep forever!

What Should I Bring With Me?

Just bring yourself, as you will receive all of the materials and pattern cutting equipment you need to use. However you may wish to wear trousers or leggings to session one to make the measuring part easier!

What Do I Take Home?

You will take away all the skills you have learned, your trouser toile and your personalised trouser block to start making your own trousers with as soon as you have been fabric shopping!
